Surviving

Well, my Thursday night shift SUCKED ASS. Of course, we were short staffed. What a surprise. Not only was it hard because it was my first day back after a stretch off...but I was overly tired to boot. Not a good combo. Really, I shouldn't be back at work in this state. It's not fair to the patients. Half-ass nursing is not cool. Unfortunately, due to the often high complexity of our patients and our lack of adequate staffing, we do too much half-ass nursing on our unit. I mean, people aren't dropping dead around us...but they aren't getting that extra attention that they actually deserve.

Last night's shift was actually more tolerable. We were short-staffed again, but the work load was more manageable for some reason. Could have been that the little old lady I had had the night before, who cried and screamed all night, got transferred to another unit. Who knows. But it wasn't just me, it was the whole crew that had a better night. We were able to take lunch breaks and everyone got out relatively on time (before 8am). You'd think these 2 things would be basic...but on our unit they tend to be luxuries.

Anyways, no more bitching for now.

I have the greatest husband in the world. People keep asking me how married life feels. Really, it feels pretty much the same. Except I have a new driver's license. :)

Oh, and I finished his hat while we were at the cabin....Cute huh? Oh yeah, the hat's nice too.
