We left the Lagoon Campground on the morning of Sept 9th. The morning was kinda cloudy until we got to Port Orford, then the sun came out.
We made a stop at Jedadiah Smith Stout Grove, one of the many parks within the Redwoods.
We had to walk a short trail...
...and over this little foot bridge...
...to get to the big guys...
It's hard to capture the feeling of being here. Almost a solemn feeling along with the obvious feeling of puniness.This guy was about 60 ft around.
There was also this face watching us...
The ranger at this park told us about a viewpoint we should check out on the way. Kind of a windy little road that you would never find unless someone told you about it. We went up about 700 feet. I think the viewpoint was called the Klammath River Overlook or something like that. He said, on a good day, you can watch the fishermen, sea lions, and seagulls all fishing for salmon, while the orcas fish for sea lions, and the great whites fish for orcas...or something like that. Anyways, we didn't see any whales but we saw lots of sea lions and gulls and fishes!
We stayed one night at the Prairie Creek Campground. Here's our campsite.
It was our first experience with a bear box. We ate some dinner, played some Yahtzee, and made a fire. 
What else did you expect I'd be doing in front of the fire??We got up fairly early the next morning. It was foggy/overcast this morning too. We walked over to this field...
...where you are suppose to be able to see Elk sometimes, but we weren't lucky enough. We did however see a deer family on our way out.
We checked out the visitor's center too.
Then we were on our way...our ultimate destination for the day was Salt Point State Park.Stay tuned...
