Gordy is so cute and such a good kitty when it comes to my yarn and knitting/crochet. She has learned, that yarn is not a kitty toy, even though every fiber in her itty bitty body tells her otherwise. Whenever I am sitting around at home knitting or crocheting, she will sit close to me and stare longingly at the ball and moving string. Only every once in a while, will she lurch towards it. It's more of an instinct, like she really just can't help herself, and as soon as her body moves towards it she realizes she isn't suppose to attack. Sometimes her paw will hesitate just as it touches the yarn, other times she will jump past the yarn and run away.
Just a few moments ago Gordy was put to the ultimate test. I was trying to organize my yarn stash. I have a few plastic bins with various full skeins and lots of odds and ends. So I was sitting on the floor with the bins open and lots of balls and skeins around on the floor. Some things were kind of falling apart so I had to wind up a lot of little balls. Gordy's eyes were big and wide as she watched the process and she leaped across the piles many times, but not once did she attack any of it. I was proud, but I felt a little like I was torturing her.
I went on another yarn date with Christine and Sev. We went to the coffee shop in Wallingford again, so of course we had to stop by the yarn store just for fun. While there, one of the women working there showed me how to knit cables! Woo hoo. It's actually pretty easy, not the difficult mess I was imagining in my mind. She also gave me a free scarf pattern to practice this new skill. Of course, I had to buy some pretty new yarn to show off my newly learned stitches. No, I don't have any self control when it comes to pretty yarn.
