New things

I am trying to learn to knit. My friend, Sev, got me started a bit the other night at the Stitch&Bitch. I could knit and purl okay, with assistance every now and then for dropped stitches or other mishaps, but I didn't yet know how to cast on. Well as soon as I started working on my swatch at home, part of it fell off the needles and I didn't know how to fix it without Sev there, so I just frogged it.

Today I bought a gigantic skein of some rainbow colored yarn at Joann's and decided to give it another go. I've been wanting to learn to knit for some time, but in my head was thinking it was this super difficult impossible thing. And while it is pretty tough, it's definitely not impossible because today I learned how to cast on!!! I used this site.... http://www.gurl.com/findout/guides/articles/0,,605406_666615-4,00.html

Check it out~~

And here's the gigantic amount of yarn, next to my size 9.5 foot for comparison:

I still don't really know how to do much and my stitches are pretty wonky, but I have a few rows going and am kind of figuring out how to hold everything and what not. I am thinking this rainbow yarn is not the best to start with though because its hard to see the stitches, so I may play with it for a while and then use something different. But I am HAPPY because I am finally heading in the right direction!! Yay! Maybe by the time next winter comes I will be able to make a scarf!

Chris and I decided we are going to start reading Shakespeare together. How cultured, huh? ;) We started this evening with Romeo and Juliet. Super fun to read together with someone. We each have a copy and then take turns reading out loud, stopping every now and then to talk about stuff and make sure we are both understanding what is going on.

And speaking of new things, I think I want to get one of these....

I don't sew many clothing items because I am not very good at it. But that's the thing, I WANT to get good at it. I feel this would make it a bit easier, because it is REALLY hard to measure correctly on myself. everything always ends up too short or long or stupid. Another item though, that I have on a back burner. Soon though, soon.
